Succession Planning

We all have to accept that our time is up and that we will be succeeded on this planet by someone younger and more sprightly than oneself. And I have had to face up to that as the reality of being a dog. New things arrive and the old has to make way for the new.

So now you’re all worried that it’s going to be in with a puppy and out with a Tex!

Of course, that’s not what I’m talking about.  I’m talking toys and the planning we need to have in place for my most favourite toy … Monkey. Here he is and I lurve him. He is my bestest toy and I am at my most content when we are together (as you can see).

Monkey and I met when, not long after my, ‘retirement’ (rejection) he was given to me by a nice lady at the Guide Dogs office. It was love at first sight and we haven’t looked back since.

But three years on, time is telling on Monkey.

Many a year of having his nose sucked, a few trips through the washing machine and one small dice with death off the side of my boat have taken their toll and have rather knocked the stuffing out of Monkey (no I mean literally – he is very thin). Don’t get me wrong, he is still with us, but mum feels his days may be numbered and that he needs a successor.

Enter Donkey

Clearly he’s not exactly like for like, he’s blue cord rather than brown fur for a start. But on closer inspection you’ll see that they are pretty much out of the same mould (or cut from the same pattern to be precise).

And so, whilst he is no Monkey, Donkey (it’s very confusing) does at least tick all the boxes. Well the main box, he has a big nose!

So, I know the time must come and, for Monkey, the next trip through the washing machine may be his last and I will be so sad to see him go (actually I think mum will be sadder because she will have to make the final decision) but at least I know I have a Monkey replacement waiting in the wings. And that’s succession planning J

Now I know you’re thinking it’s a shame Tex only has one or two toys but mum says I should point out there is also Meerkat, Frog, Pluto, Mickey, Tigger (currently in the hospital for eye surgery), Tree-dog-frog, Piglet, Seahorse, Lamb-Chop and a few other chewy bits and bobs. So it’s OK I’m not toy deprived or anything!!

Have you done you succession planning dear readers, like a certain well organised canine??

I’ll leave you to plan

Love

Tex
