Bank Holibobs

Well it has been about a month since I last posted an update. I apologise but sometimes I am just such a busy dog (busy as in I have a lot to do)!

For the first period of absence I have to tell you I was on holiday. Now as my regular readers know what takes place on my holiday is for me alone to know and not for general public consumption. However I will say that I holidayed in a very nice part of Wokingham with my mate Scamp and I had a very nice time. My accommodation was first class and I was made to feel very welcome. :}

So I came back nicely refreshed and before I knew it it’s time to go off for another holiday, just for three days but a holiday nonetheless.

As it was a Bank Holibob we took the opportunity to get out and about on my boat. We had special plans this weekend as we were meeting up with boating friends Joe and Jill and travelling in convoy from our mooring at Temple to Reading. Now I know some of you will say don’t you live about 5 miles from Reading? And to be fair they have a point, but believe me Reading by boat is far superior to Reading by the A329!! Mind you it takes a bit longer (5 hours to be precise) but never mind I was not lacking in appreciative looks and comments along the way.

We had a good trip up there and it was interesting because we went off the Thames, up the river Kennet for a bit and through a new (to us) lock to reach the pub. But I have to say I didn’t like the moorings at the pub so it’s a good job I didn’t have to get off the boat too often. They were really not designed for doggy paws (or high heeled shoes mum says). Dad thought he might have to carry my on and off but I was a big brave boy and picked my way over them like a trouper.

Anyway moorings aside the trip had its benefits. Not least that we had company from Joe and Jill. As you know I like company and I was able to show them lots of items in the form of my bed, some vet bed, my seahorse etc. I’m sure they were appreciative 🙂 We were able to entertain our guests under the new canopy that we have on Juneau. I like this because there is space for my guests and for me to ‘circulate’ effectively. I don’t know where that canopy came from but I thank the little fairies that put it on for us. :mrgreen:

Both mum and dad got to try Joe’s electrified bike. Now this is not quite as it sounds. It’s not a bike that delivers small electric shocks to the human to make them pedal faster. No it’s designed to help them pedal when the going gets tough. Dad looked quite at home on the bike and mum looked like she hasn’t ridden a bike for years (which is almost certainly true!). Anyway dad reckons that an electrified bike is definitely the kind of thing mum needs!

So eventually it was time to leave Joe and Jill because they were heading up river and we had to head back towards home. We had a nice journey back. Firstly to make up for the un-dog friendly moorings at Reading we stopped off at Sonning for a nice long walk. I got to kick back and eat grass (well actually I wasn’t supposed to eat grass but hey it was the Bank Holibobs!). Then we meandered back via Henley where I ‘did’ a few tennis balls and then to Temple where I had a bit more of a walk.

We overnighted chez nous (as in on our home moorings). This was nice because we ‘entertained’ our boating neighbours under the new fairy canopy. I have to say that they are a very dog friendly couple and I was well tickled. I showed them all of my possessions including all those mentioned above and Piglet who had made an appearance by then, they thought I was very cute. I thought it was all very sociable. So much so I picked up Piglet and followed them home. However, mum and dad pointed out that I actually live on Juneau, with them, so I came back. 😕

Now I know what a Bank Holibob means. Did you know it translates as ‘one extra day’s holiday’? I like to be educational!

So armed with an extra day we went to Cookham. Again it was a nice day and we went for a long walk. I played with lots of dogs at the start and I had a bit of a paddle. The main problem was that I was soon shattered and mum and dad were concerned that they would have to carry all 30kg of me back. Oh parents of little faith! I was of course still on my paws as we reached Juneau (but I was glad to put them up when we did get back).

I did need a kip on the way home…

So that was the Bank Holibob weekend. It was a weekend of socialising and tickles and, for me, that makes it a good one. We’ve since heard that Joe and Jill have made it a long way up the Thames and were ready to go well and truly beyond the point where the fairy canopied Juneau can go. I hope they can find their way back! Dad did some ace navigating between all the sail boats in the Bourne End Regatta and got to try the electrified bike and mum forgot the sunscreen so, unless the colour on her nose subsides relatively soon, Rudolph may find himself redundant this Christmas.

Me, I had a lovely time but my main aim for this week is to catch up on my sleep because, dear reader, I have to say Bank Holibobs are indeed very tiring!

I hope your holibob weekend was good.

Love
