You just cannot get the humans

SO what did I say … what did I say???

I was, of course, very grateful for my Mickey Mouse requested via my blog.  And I was rightly proud that I had trained my dad to react in the appropriate way to my requests.  However, it seems one’s mum is much harder to influence.  So when I said (and I quote) ‘this house does not need a dog’ I really meant it.  But oh no, does she listen? Does she heck!  Look what turned up last week.

Daisy Dog

This is Daisy Dog and she’s a girl and what’s more she’s here for a while.  You probably won’t be surprised to read that Daisy is in fact a trainee guide dog and she has come to Wokingham to do her advanced training prior to her becoming someone’s faithful guide and companion.  As I am a dog in the know (having completed this training process when I was no-but-a-lad) I will tell you that this means she’ll be here for 10 – 12 weeks whilst she learns the finer points of being a guide dog and in that time the powers the be (you know who you are :)) will find her a lovely person to be a guide dog for.

So having protested long and hard about the arrival of another dog I have to say I actually quite like her.  She is very polite and sweet and she’s happily given up her bed for me – the mark of a true lady as far as I’m concerned  🙂  We got on well on our free run, I chased her, she chased me and then we both collapsed in a heap when we got home.  This is all good doggy fun.

Now my days have moved into the ‘guide dog mode’, last seen when Becket was here (remember him – I do – in fact we all do!).  This means that mum shuffles us dogs round like cards in a pack.  Breakfast for me, spends for Daisy (no she doesn’t go out shopping first thing, it’s a technical term), walk for me, school run for Daisy, large cup of tea for mum – phew!  Then I get some quality sleep time until my lunch time walk (where I am allowed a tennis ball) and then more sleep before Daisy gets picked up from school and then it’s PLAY TIME.  It’s all go in this household.

Quite a short entry but I’m sure more Daisy tales will follow.  My summing up statement for this blog is that I feel this girl has some potential and whilst I wasn’t totally prepared for her arrival I am prepared to give her house room (unless she blots her copy book that is).  So on this positive doggy note I will leave you with a few pictures of us.

We got new toys - the green was favourite but didn't make it through the weekend!
A hard days playing makes you tired
Daisy is quite at home I think!

RESULT!

Look at that – the power of the internet eh!  Some of you may recall I put in a request for a Mickey Mouse, via my blog, to my dad who was in Florida (home of Mickey) at the time.  And as you can see my request was granted and dad very kindly brought the above pictured Mickey home for me.  I am so spoiled!!!  He’s very nice and I like him a lot because he has dangly arms and legs that I can get hold of.  I am a happy dog.

Here I am actually getting Mickey.  As you can see I was very polite about it.

What's in the bag?
Hey Mickey!
When do I get him?
Yay - he's good 🙂

So what else has happened (since my blog was so rudely hijacked last week)?  Well, we did our last Juneau cruise of the season.  We went a long way, from Bray all the way to Wargrave where we are hoping Juneau will have a new home.

I think cruising on the last day of October is very satisfactory.  The river was very quiet.  We cruised up to locks, the gates opened, we went in, gates closed, lock filled and we were on our way.  None of this hanging around for your turn like there is in summer.  It was a very nice day, a bit of sunshine and not too windy so a fine day for cruising and we got there in record time.  But we weren’t hurrying so we had an overnight in Henley on Thames and arrived early in Wargrave.  Here are a few photos of our journey.

Our last day cruising
Just checking we're going the right way
That's our new home

After a bit of a tidy up and sort out it was time to hang up my lifejacket for the 2011 season and to head home.  Never mind – soon be 2012 🙂

Hung up for the winter

There wasn’t too much to report from last week, just a normal week.  Of course it was fireworks night but I am not fazed by these things (apart from someone letting a rocket off when I was out for a spend – I wasn’t so keen on that!)

I’ve been to see the vet today just for my annual booster jab.  He was very nice and thought I was a model patient.  I got lots of tickles and a biscuit for being a good boy – so I am quite happy to go back again.

I think that’s all I have to tell you for this week.  I hope you like my photos.  Oh and (on the back of my success in acquiring Mickey) apparently I would also like … some Tiffany jewellery, a pair of Jimmy Choo’s and a Nelson 38!  Don’t ask me I just write it, if I know what’s good for me that is!  But as we’re putting in requests I should say our house doesn’t need a new dog to arrive in the next few days, the one it’s got is perfectly (that’s me) fine thank you very much!

Hope you had a good week reader.

Feedback as requested

Subject: My recent holiday

Dear Doggy Stays

As promised I am providing feedback on my recent holiday at the Saunders establishment in Berkshire.  I hope you find it useful.

A little bit about yourself

Breed : Labrador (part)
Colour : Chocolate
Age : not that it’s polite to ask a lady but about 7ish
Weight : mind your own business!!

Why did you select this establishment for your holiday?

Well actually I didn’t.  I didn’t get a say in it my Dad just took me there and left me!

How were you greeted on arrival?

Well not too bad really.  There were two human sets of hands to give me tickles and one additional (and apparently resident) waggy tail.  All of which made me feel very welcome.  I was particularly pleased to find a full toy box available at all time.  I made very full use of this facility. 🙂

How was the food?

Well I have to say it was pretty much the same as I had at home (actually it was exactly the same as I had at home).  Sadly it also came with the same measuring cup so there was no danger of me overeating on my holiday.  Which is really not on because I understand that’s what most humans do when they are on holiday? 😕

Did the hotel provide a comfortable bed?

Well I have to say my bed was pretty much the same as I have at home (in fact it was exactly the same as I have at home) – there’s a bit of a theme here!  I suppose that’s not totally true.  There was a selection of beds in this hotel.  But it seems the resident dog is not allowed to use them, they must just be for guests.  Instead he was most grateful I had brought a ‘spare’ bed and took a great shine to it (it was a bit on the small side for him but I suppose as he doesn’t have a bed of his own anything is a treat.  I was pleased to be able to help in this respect).  As it was I took a great shine to all the others.  Particularly the one pictured below – as you can see I do look quite at home in here.

Settling in

Please tell us about the activities planned for you during your stay.

Well, we did seem to be on the go most of the time (the rest of the time I was asleep).  I had walks (with the resident dog) and we went for runs (me and him).  I was particularly pleased to see that this hotel also had a good selection of tennis balls so I was kept entertained on my walks. 🙂

I was also allowed to watch telly. This is me wathcing ‘Antiques Road Trip’  – I didn’t have much access to the remote as you can tell!

Watching TV

And tell us about the company you had during your stay.

Well, as I said there were two humans.  They seemed very nice.  They soon understood the signals I give for ‘I want to go out’, ‘I want my dinner’, ‘I want tickles’.  And they seemed to respond with the correct action on each occasion. (except the ‘I want my dinner’ one as I only got two meals a day even though I asked for 27!)

When it comes to doggy company I have to say it was a bit odd.  The resident dog (Tex) was a handsome Lab x GR, black in colour.  He was very polite.  He didn’t seem to mind me sleeping in the other beds, helping myself to a toy or two (or three or four) or sharing his tennis ball stash.  However there were one or two objections.  He didn’t want to hold my paw he didn’t make a fuss about it he just got up and moved about 3 feet away when I got close!  However he was particularly shocked when I tried to get into bed with him in the middle of the night.  😳  Most odd!

He was quite playful, but sadly I’m not so no amount of play bowing and offering me toys could entice me into a game.  I’m sorry I just don’t speak that language!

So all in all doggy company was comfortable and easy going (and quite easy on the eye) but by no means easy virtue!!

Would you go back again?

What planet are you on – I don’t get to choose – I’m a dog!!

I hope you find my feedback is useful for your website and that by submitting this form I have guaranteed my entry into the ‘Win your weight in Bonios’ competition (if I win I will tell you my weight!!)  😆

With best wishes

Coco (part) Labrador 🙂
